Sussex English sparkling wine makes history

West Sussex vineyard, Nyetimber has made history at the world-renowned International Wine Challenge awards, beating Champagne producers to win the main award.  Nyetimber’s Blanc de Blancs 2016 Magnum was awarded the winner of the Champagne Sparkling Wine and Head Winemaker, Cherie Spriggs, awarded Winemaker of the Year, making this the first time in the 34-year history of the trophy that it has been awarded to a non-Champagne producer.

This is the second time that Cherie Spriggs has won the prestigious Winemaker of the Year, having first won it in 2018, but she is still the only woman to have done so and the only person outside France to have won twice.
