Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP, has issued a written statement to MPs broadly backing London Gatwick’s planning application to make use of it’s northern runway. However, she has extended the deadline for the final decision until the 27th October.
This is due to the Planning Inspectorate initially rejecting the airport’s application, but, for the first time, then recommended the Transport Secretary should give her approval if adjustments are made on issues such as public transport infrastructure around the airport and noise mitigation.
London Gatwick now has until the 24th April to respond to the Minister.
