The University of Sussex, in partnership with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), has been ranked first in the world for Development Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. It is the eighth consecutive year that the University has taken the top spot for the subject area.
The ranking reflects the University’s international reputation for excellence as well as the strength of teaching and research relationships between Sussex, IDS and partners across the globe.
Development Studies addresses some of the most pressing issues facing humanity from inequality to sustainability and security. Teaching and research at Sussex and IDS, which shares the University’s campus, are closely integrated with researchers bringing theory and evidence to their teaching, offering students first-hand experience of real world problems, while engaging with governments, policymakers, businesses, NGOs, social movements, and communities.
